Boomer Business of the Week: Johnny’s Cafe

“We are old school… in a good way!” – Sally Kawa

That was definitely the feel we got when sitting down with Kari and Sally Kawa of Johnny’s Café! Family owned and operated since 1922, Sally and Kerry are third generation owners of Omaha’s Original Steak House.

Johnny’s Café has been an Omaha staple for 94 years. It comes as no surprise that they have been voted Best of Omaha for 9 years in a row! The throwback feel and unique atmosphere that Johnny’s Café provides adds to the amazing experience for their customers. Everything that passes from the kitchen to your plate is hand-made and prepared from scratch. Their prime rib and steaks come from corn feed beef, aged and cut in house.

It seems that Johnny’s ability to offer unique dishes, like braised ox joints, and popular events contribute to their staying power in Omaha. A customer favorite event is their recurring wine tasting, held every 2nd and 4th of each month. At this event, customers can enjoy two hot appetizers and a fresh cheese and bread tray, while sampling five wines. For the more laid back crowd, every Friday night is burger night in the bar, starting at 5:00 pm! Johnny’s famous steak burgers at a special price of $5.50 cant be beat. Sally says customers often pair their burger with Johnny’s hand-breaded onion rings… Is your mouth watering yet?
